Early Summer Update

We did have some late planting on the Missouri River bottoms but overall corn and soybean crops were planted in a timely manner.  Both crops are developing rapidly and are generally in excellent condition.  Post emergent herbicide application is complete on all corn acres and post emergent herbicide application of soybeans will be occurring over the next 2 weeks.  Commodity prices remain depressed and are nearly at their yearly lows.  However, summer weather can cause significant volatility in the grain markets and there is a possibility for improved prices with a weather scare during corn pollination.  I this time in the growing season I am expecting average to above average corn and soybean yields and below average corn and soybean prices.
